Allison McNamara Dââ¬â¢Abbene, p.4 American History 8 18 December 2015 Washington, the Man of the Revolutionary Era On February 22nd, 1732, George Washington was born in Virginia, but little did his parents know that he would change America forever. George Washington worked hard to raise soldiersââ¬â¢ spirits and help them to survive the winter at Valley Forge. He did anything in his power to get the necessary supplies and best living conditions for his soldiers. George Washington lead the Culper Spy Ring which was vital in winning the war. He worked as hard as he could to make sure his soldiers were ready for anything and everything that could happen on the battle field. But, training his soldiers was not the only thing that needed to be done. Although the soldiers were making due at the camp, conditions were f ar from perfection. He ordered that camp to be laid out in a way that best fit the soldiers. His instructions were to build a log hut 14 by 16 ft for every 12 men. He also ordered his men to build a bridge over the Schuylkill River to resupply his army more efficiently. Washington wanted the best for his troops, and in order have that he needed help from sources outside of Valley Forge. As early as September, 1777, Washington contacted Alexander Hamilton to ask for supplies such as clothes and blankets, which the soldiers were in need of. He desperately wrote a letter to congress to inform them of the harsh conditions, and asking them for any supplies that they would give to his troops. He wrote, From my soul... I pity these miseries, which it is neither in my power to relieve or preventâ⬠(Bruns, 63-64). Washington also sent men on large expeditions to get food for his soldiers. These men were successful and most likely saved the army. With all of these efforts combined, his t roopsââ¬â¢ supply dilemma eased and they got back on track for the war. Although the winter was harsh, conditions gradually improved under the leadership of

Time may be mature for Goans to demand Particular Status to Goa. by seeking amendment of the Article 371 one time once more to fulfill their demand. The latest such amendment as 371 ( J ) has approved particular position to the part of north Karnataka. including six territories of Gulbarga. Bidar. Raichur. Yadagir. Koppal and Bellary. This creates particular conditions for the development of this part. The statute law allowing the position was signed by the Congress backed President Pranab Mukherjee. but with political backup of Sonia Gandhiââ¬â¢s United Progressive Alliance. Goa excessively can savor Indian Federalism to the full. The clip is mature. but merely for fastening the political prison guard. Parrikar deserves congratulations for his enterprises. but consequences may necessitate to wait till the following election. go forthing it to the Congress Party to do it its electoral streamer to come back to power in Goa. Sonia Gandhi did do some agreeable noises during her visit to Goa to tag the aureate jubilee of Goaââ¬â¢s release. We will write a custom essay sample on Special Status for Goa and Indian Federalism Essay Sample or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page She referred in her address to Goaââ¬â¢s release. Opinion Poll and Statehood. all three major events in post-colonial development of Goa as gifts of her Party. if non from her household. But the excavation temblor buried the Congress. India does non necessitate to larn lessons of federalism from America. In recent developments in Asia. China has made particular commissariats for Hong Kong. Macau and other independent parts. Unfortunately. Indonesia failed the trial in the instance of Timor. mostly made hard by a neighbour with oculus on rich oil resources and the former colonial power to counterbalance for its past failure. If Sri Lanka is to happen a solution within a federal construction. it will hold to analyze Indiaââ¬â¢s `unequal but specialââ¬â¢ attack to federal administration to work out its jobs with the Tamils. Article 371 of the Indian Constitution contains particular commissariats for Maharashtra and Gujarat. Particular commissariats were produced under Articles 371A for Nagaland. 371B for Assam. 371C for Manipur. 371D and E for Andhra Pradesh. 371F for Sikkim. 371G for Mizoram. 371H for Arunachal Pradesh. and 371 I for Goa. and 371 J for Hyderabad Karnataka. To this may be added the Fifth and Sixth Schedules of the Constitution. which grant particular commissariats to the Tribal Areas and the Northeastern States. It is axiomatic that the alone intervention given to the `unequal but specialââ¬â¢ States of India is due to historical factors or because specially placed people needed particular intervention. Article 370 is non an anomalousness but an exciting illustration of the infinite possibilities of federal administration in India ; and. perforce. the sub-continent. The separate but particular position of Jammu and Kashmir does non militate against the State being an built-in portion of India. Jammu and Kashmir has had its ain Fundamental law since 1957 ââ¬â being the lone State in India to make so ââ¬â within the conspectus of the Indian Constitution. How is a Kashmiri to be defined? Article 35A of the adapted Union Constitution empowers the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly to specify its `permanent residentsââ¬â¢ and restrict the rights to colony and having immoveable belongings. Equally. the Fundamental law of Jammu and Kashmir ensures that all `permanent residentâ⬠⢠Kashmiris shall besides hold all the constitutional rights of all other Indians. But non everyone can settle in the State to claim its `permanent residentââ¬â¢ position. The construct of a lasting residential position as a footing for harmonizing particular privileges to occupants of an country is no alien to Indian administration. Neither the thought that the ownership of immoveable belongings rights should be confined to certain people in certain countries. Today the hill States of Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal have restricted land ownership to their occupants. In relation to Nagaland and Mizoram. the Indian Constitution permits particular Torahs in regard of ââ¬Å"ownership and transportation of land and its resources. â⬠The Fifth Schedule of the Constitution contains particular commissariats to restrict land transportations among tribals. Such policies exist throughout the Northeast and tribal countries. Thus the Indian Constitution non merely permits. but besides ordains assorted States to ordain particular Torahs to restrict the ownership of la nd merely to some designated occupants. Goa does non hold to reinvent the wheel. As a fully fledged State of the Indian Union it has to merely convert the Union authorities that the land of its legitimacy as a State is doomed without the Special Status which may authorise the State Government to follow legal instruments to safeguard its cultural and territorial individuality and unity. the land of its Statehood.

As we know it, human civilization is no stranger to drastic changes and radical revolutions. Entire governments have been razed to the ground for a new type of society to emerge. When such an event occurs, a nation is bound to suffer heavy casualties in terms of their culture and traditions. During the Bolshevik Revolution of Russia, the entire Russian society has been reshaped down to the core. The old Tsarist government has been brought to an end, but it didnââ¬â¢t stop there. The people of Russia had completely abandoned their ancient culture and traditions in order to make place for the communism. With one stroke of a sharp knife, the Russians have severed all connections to their past. Conservatism is an ideology opposing such societal overhaul advocating a more cautious approach to progress and valuing the immeasurable wisdoms of the traditions and cultures. Anthony Daniels under the pen name Theodore Dalrymple wrote ââ¬Å"The Starving Criminalâ⬠an article that intricately displays some of the central ideas of this ideology. We will write a custom essay sample on The Starving Criminal or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page By analyzing this article, we will set out to explore these ideas and acquire a better understanding of conservatism. Conservatives has a very pessimistic conception of human nature, we are imperfect in every sense: morally and intellectually1. Our passion and desire can easily override our reason therefore we are irrational beings. In ââ¬Å"The Starving Criminalâ⬠, we can sense by his sarcastic tone that Dalrymple mocks the naivety of the British people who really believes that the solution to eradicate crime is to simply hand out vitamin supplements to criminals. Criminality is a complex problem with depth and scope; the people are so desperate to get rid of it that theyââ¬â¢re ready to believe in a grossly simplified and completely irrelevant solution. This is an example of when desire override rationality Dalrymple makes to demonstrate his support for the conservative view of human nature. For conservatives freedom is a good thing but there are prerequisites before it becomes relevant. Liberty is very desirable but it can become harmful when misdirected or unrestrained2. Dalrymple uses this idea analogically in his text. He argued that prisoners, especially the ones suffering from malnutrition, shouldnââ¬â¢t be hurriedly set free as their misusage of freedom will cause greatly harm their health. Through incarceration they have a chance to recover their health. The entire essay is an indictment towards the extreme capitalistic society of modern Britain. In this type of society there is an excess attachment to wealth and material goods. Edmund Burke has said, society is like a fabric where different elements such as tradition, culture and individuals are interwoven to form one organism3. However capitalism has rendered Britain an atomistic society, in pursuit of money people abandon their culture and traditions and distance themselves from each other. Families are not as united as they once were, through selfishness and individualistic thought, family members cease to reaffirm their bonds. Without any sentimental attachment, parents start to neglect their children and wonââ¬â¢t hesitate to sacrifice them for money. Without family, the passing of tradition has come to a halt. Without tradition people become lifeless and empty, which is reason why they cannot find happiness and their health starts degrading. Unlike the British families whose traditions are almost extinct, the Indian families remain very faithful to their roots. Their families frequently gather during meals allowing them to strengthen their bonds towards one another and pass down traditional virtues to their young ones. Although theyââ¬â¢re far less wealthy than the British natives, these Indian immigrants live a far happier life and are much healthier. Traditions and cultures are invaluable perks in ones life; they provide you with a spirit and fill you with an essence that cannot be found anywhere else. Dalrymple criticizes the government for failing to grasp the real problem behind the famine plaguing modern Britain. For conservatives the government should have a clear conscience to make decision based on the best of their judgments and heedless to the opinion of the general public4. Instead of focusing on the real problem, the government of Britain main concern is their appearance to the general public and thus applies ineffective measures to combat the famine. The majority of the people believe that famine is simply the product of poverty and inequality so the government acts according to their opinions by planting supermarkets and establishing a Food Poverty Authority in every poor district. Not only does the government fail to solve the real problem, theyââ¬â¢re also taking advantage of the poverty to generate more revenues and exert a firmer control on society. This is not the enlightened representative government conservative had in mind; by their standards itââ¬â¢s a puppet government of the mass that double-crosses on its people. Their attempt to seize more power is also a direct violation of the conservative belief that power should be dispersed throughout society5. Dalrymple has also alluded to the importance of private properties advocated by the conservative thinkers. As a consequence of the family breakdown due to capitalism, many people are driven out of their home at a very young age. Since they donââ¬â¢t have much money they cannot afford a private habitation. So they become wanderers sleeping at friendââ¬â¢s houses and sometimes on the streets. Conservatives viewed private properties as a stabilizing force of society allowing people to attach to their society6. Without a permanent lodging, these young teenagers live like scavengers. They have no choice but to live in an isolated and atomistic way to survive. In essence, Dalrymple uses the ideologies of conservatism as the backbone in his critiques of modern British society. He does so by emphasizing ideas which constitute the pillars of conservatism: such as the importance of tradition, the cohesion of society through bonds and the impartiality of the government. Conservatives are against excessive inclination on a particular ideology. They believe that the perfect system is created when different ideologies are equally considered and used harmonically. In modern Britain, capitalism is the predominant ideology which brings about hyper-materialism and, for Dalrymple, it is the core cause for many modern day problems.
